Why most appeals fall flat

Denial letters are written in policy language and point to a clause. Sometimes they point to a single note in your pet's chart from before your coverage started. A generic "please reconsider" email rarely engages with that. A good appeal does three things:

  • shows when the first clinical sign actually appeared, using dated records;
  • quotes your policy's own definition back to the insurer and explains why your facts don't meet it;
  • includes a clear statement from your vet.

Most owners have never done this before, often while their pet is still sick.

Reviewing an appeal letter

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload (about 10 minutes)

Your denial letter, your policy or declarations page, and whatever vet records you have. Photos from your phone are fine. Missing something? We tell you exactly what to request from your vet.

  2. 2

We read it against your policy

We identify the denial ground (e.g. pre-existing condition, "curable condition" not waited out, waiting period, bilateral condition, exclusion). Then we compare your records' dates against your policy's definitions and build a dated timeline.

  3. 3

You get your pack within 1 hour

    • Appeal letter: personalised, cites your policy wording and your records by date, and answers the stated reason.
    • Vet letter, pre-filled: your vet reviews it, edits anything they disagree with, and signs. They are never asked to state anything they don't believe.
    • Checklist: what to attach, how to send it, the deadline to calendar, and what to do if the appeal is refused (including how to file a complaint with your state's Department of Insurance).
  4. 4

    You send it

You stay in control. We never contact your insurer or your vet on your behalf.

Questions

Why not just use a free guide?+
Free guides are useful, and we suggest reading one. A guide tells you what an appeal should contain. Our pack is an appeal written from your own records and your own policy wording, with a vet letter that matches it. If you're comfortable reading SOAP notes against policy definitions and drafting both letters yourself, a guide may be all you need.
What's in my pack?+
Your pack includes a personalised appeal letter, a pre-filled vet letter, and a dated timeline, prepared from your uploaded records and delivered within 1 hour. If you'd rather do it yourself, that's a reasonable choice.
Will it work?+
We can't promise an outcome, and you should be wary of anyone who does. The insurer decides your appeal. Some denials are correct under the policy. If your records clearly show the condition before coverage began, an appeal is unlikely to change that, and we'll tell you so in your denial diagnosis instead of selling you false hope. What we can promise is a clear, complete, well-evidenced appeal that answers the reason you were given. That is what insurers say they review.
How much does it cost?+
You'll see the one-time price once your pack is ready, before you pay anything.
Aren't there cheaper tools?+
Yes. Self-serve letter tools exist, some for under $10. With Pet Claim Appeal Aid, the pack is built from your uploaded records and your policy wording: a personalised appeal letter, a pre-filled vet letter, a dated timeline and a checklist, delivered within 1 hour. What you pay for is a complete, record-based pack ready to send — including the vet letter most owners skip.
Will appealing hurt my premiums or coverage?+
Check your insurer's own statements. Lemonade, for example, publicly says filing or having claims denied "will never result in a rate change" to a Lemonade Pet policy. We haven't verified this for every insurer. Ask yours if you're unsure.
Do I need a lawyer?+
We don't provide legal advice and we're not a law firm. Many owners handle a first internal appeal themselves. If your claim is large, involves a dispute over the policy's meaning, or the insurer won't move, consider talking to a licensed attorney in your state or contacting your state Department of Insurance.
What denials can you help with?+
Most common written denial reasons: pre-existing condition, a "curable" condition that hasn't been symptom-free long enough, waiting period, bilateral condition, and specific exclusions. If yours is something else, upload it and we'll tell you whether we can help.
Which insurers?+
Any US pet insurer. We have dedicated pages for Trupanion, Healthy Paws, Lemonade and Nationwide. Pet Claim Appeal Aid is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any insurer.
How fast?+
Within 1 hour of receiving your uploads.
What's my appeal deadline?+
It depends on your insurer, your policy and sometimes your state. Appeal deadlines are in your denial letter — check yours, and act early. If you can't find it, call your insurer and ask, and write down the date and the name of the person you spoke to. We highlight any deadline we find in your documents. We don't guarantee we'll find one.
What if my insurer says no again?+
Your checklist includes next steps: asking for a further review, requesting the claim file and the specific policy language relied on, and filing a complaint with your state Department of Insurance.
Will you contact my insurer or my vet?+
No. You send everything. You stay in control.
Does my vet have to sign the vet letter?+
Only if they agree with it. It's a pre-filled draft that your vet can edit or rewrite. Some clinics charge a fee for writing letters; ask yours.
Is my data safe?+
Documents you upload are used only to prepare your appeal pack. We do not sell your documents or your personal information. A full privacy policy will be published before we take live payments.
Is this legal advice?+
No. See the disclaimer below.
